WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT

There are still places in Africa where the wilderness feels endless.
Where the roads fade into sand tracks, where the horizon stretches forever, and where the night sky explodes with stars so bright that silence itself becomes part of the experience.

Hunters & Hideaways is one of those journeys.

This brand-new Waypoint Adventures expedition ventures deep into Botswana’s most remote and captivating landscapes, crossing vast wilderness areas, ancient salt pans, legendary baobab forests, and the untamed plains of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.

This is not a sightseeing trip. It is a true overland expedition.

Our adventure begins near Kazungula, where we settle in beside the Chobe River and prepare for the journey ahead. After final vehicle checks and a last evening around the campfire, we head west onto one of Botswana’s most legendary wilderness routes — Hunters Road.

Hunters Road is wild, remote, and wonderfully unpredictable. For several days we travel this historic track across open savannah and ancient elephant corridors, camping at remote waterholes and beneath giant baobab trees. Wildlife moves freely through this region, and encounters with elephants, giraffe, antelope, and predators are always possible.

From there we journey to the remarkable Elephant Sands, one of Botswana’s most unique camps where elephants regularly wander directly through camp to drink at the waterhole just metres away.

The expedition then leads us into the breathtaking landscapes of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, where we spend time at Lekhubu Island, a dramatic rocky outcrop surrounded by endless white pan and scattered with ancient baobabs that have stood watch over the desert for centuries.

Our route continues into Nxai Pan National Park, where we visit the legendary Baines Baobabs — one of Botswana’s most iconic and photographed landscapes, immortalised by the explorer Thomas Baines in the 19th century.

From here the real wilderness begins. We push deep into the immense Central Kalahari Game Reserve, one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the world. Over several days we explore Sunday Pan and Piper Pan, camping beneath enormous skies and travelling across vast plains where lion, cheetah, brown hyena, and large herds of antelope roam freely.

The campsites here are wild and unfenced. Wildlife is part of the experience. This is the Africa many people dream of - raw, remote, unpredictable, and unforgettable.

After days immersed in the Kalahari wilderness, our journey concludes back near the Chobe River in Kasane, where we celebrate the expedition together and enjoy a Chobe River sunset cruise, one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in Africa.

Hunters & Hideaways - The Kalahari Expedition is about exploration, adventure, and discovering places that still feel untouched by time.

It is the kind of journey that reminds us why we fell in love with Africa in the first place.
