We are super excited to introduce our Angola adventure! This was asked for many years by many, and it’s time!

Embark on a remarkable 17-day journey through Angola, a land rich with contrasts, from its bustling border towns to its remote, tranquil beaches. This overland adventure is designed for those who crave a deep dive into the heart of a country that balances on the cusp of untouched wilderness and rapid modernization. Our meticulously planned route takes you through some of the most scenic and culturally significant regions of Angola, offering a blend of historical insight, natural beauty, and interaction with local communities.

Your adventure begins in Tsumeb, a gateway that introduces you to the camaraderie of your travel group and sets the stage with a comprehensive briefing. As you cross into Angola, your days will be filled with diverse activities: from navigating the administrative maze of border crossings with the help of local experts to setting up camp in bush settings that offer a back-to-nature experience. Each destination along the route has been chosen not only for its beauty but also for its ability to offer a glimpse into the local way of life. Visit markets where you can haggle over vibrant textiles, sample local cuisine, and interact with friendly vendors.

As the journey unfolds, historical and cultural visits enrich your understanding of Angola’s complex past and present. Tour the ruins of war leader Jonas Savimbi’s house, explore colonial relics like the pink house of Mucuio, and learn about Angola’s civil conflicts through visits to poignant memorials and battle sites. The South African Bush War, or Angolan Border War, echoes throughout the landscape, with remnants of battle sites and the tales of locals who remember the tumultuous times. This historical backdrop adds a profound depth to your travels, as you drive through areas that once served as battlegrounds.

The tour doesn’t shy away from the raw realities of travel, with challenging drives through potholed roads and dirt tracks that lead to breathtaking destinations such as the Tundavale cliffs and the serene waters of Cacoeira Waterfall. For nature enthusiasts, the tour offers unmatched experiences in some of Angola’s most stunning natural settings. From fishing in the rich waters of Iona Park to wildlife spotting on the Skeleton Coast, the natural world will be an ever-present part of your journey.

One of the most thrilling challenges is the drive through the Doodsakker, or “Death’s Acre,” a notorious strip along the coast known for its treacherous terrain between the pounding waves of the Atlantic and steep desert dunes. This segment requires expert driving skills and offers an exhilarating sense of accomplishment with its dramatic and raw landscape. Highlights include a rubber boat trip to the desolate beauty of Baia dos Tigres, reminiscent of a ghost town without the tourists, and the thrilling drive along the infamous Skeleton Coast, where the Atlantic Ocean meets vast dunes.

Morning visit to view historic Russian tanks at Xangongo. Pay respects at Maj. Fred Lottering's memorial plaque, then embark on the journey back to the border.

The tour is self-catering, but we will propose a menu closer to the time. You will also receive a detailed tour plan and itinerary with maps closer to the time.

A fully serviced reliable 4x4 vehicle with a low range in a very good condition. You can take an offroad trailer, but no Mobilodges. PLEASE CHECK WITH US FIRST REGARDING YOUR TRAILER
Fuel range for at least 850km
Suitable recovery gear and quality tire repair kit
All your drinking water, meals, drinks, and snacks for at least 9 days
All Camping gear.
Firewood (We buy in Namibia and Angola)
First Aid Kit as per your requirements
Valid Driver’s License

A passport that is valid for at least 6 months with a minimum of 2 blank visa pages for entry and exit stamps. Children below the age of 18 will also need valid passports, certified unabridged birth certificates, and a letter of consent from the other parent should the minor be traveling with only one parent.
Fuel range for at least 850km
A certified copy of vehicle registration/vehicle license papers is acceptable at the border posts if the vehicle is your own. This must be accompanied by a bank letter authorizing you to take the vehicle across the border and must indicate the dates. Both the bank letter and copies of license papers should be signed by a Commissioner of Oaths.

If the vehicle is rented or not registered in your name, you will need an affidavit from the South African police giving you permission from the rental company or owner to take the vehicle across a Botswana border post. Both this letter and the registration documents need to be signed by a Commissioner of Oaths.
Your vehicle must have a ZA sticker, which designates that they are foreign vehicles which were registered in South Africa.
Third Party Insurance valid for 90 Days
All Fees relative to the border crossing: Insurance, etc.

You MUST have a police clearance for your vehicle and trailer to enter Angola. Please go to your local police station and enquire about this. VERY Important!
A4 Page with large clear photo on each page of Front, Back and each side of your vehicle and trailer
The document with the cutout licence disk of the vehicle and the trailer. Get a new copy from Licence department if you do not have this anymore.
Also, please visit your doctor and discuss Malaria and recommendations regarding prophylaxis; we are visiting a Malaria area.

Half-price for children under 12
Children under 6 are free (at the time of the tour).
